Chusquea gigantea syn C.breviglumis
An outstanding bamboo rarely found commercially, Chusquea gigantea has an almost mythical status amongst bamboo afficionados - "the most magnificent bamboo that can be grown in cool-temperate gardens" according to one expert.
It is a tall bamboo with thick beautiful culms tolerant of wind and exposure. It will not run around the garden like some, but will steadily, some would say relentlessly, expand until it majestically fills a large area. It is unsuitable therefore in small gardens, but if you have the space it is unequalled.
